Re-Visiting Chula Vista: Imperial Beach and the Border

Chula Vista RV Resort is a destination! Check out their web site for fun activities the second weekend of December! We enjoyed an open house Friday evening, December 9th, and shared in the fun of the holidays as several RV clubs were there with all their Christmas decorations!

One row, each rig completely decorated!

Another Club, with this coach for sure the Winner!

Saturday, December 10, all the businesses along the bay were open for snacks and hot chocolate, as we walked along enjoying the lights of the boats in the marina, stopping for snacks along the way. The San Diego Parade of Lights was scheduled for Sunday evening the 11th. We chose not to attend this time--wanted to depart on a Sunday rather than fight the crowds on a Monday...

We explored the town of Imperial Beach, and stopped to walk along the beach. The town got its name from the Imperial County, a dessert climate 100 miles inland. Farmers and landowners came to the area in the late 1800s seeking cooler weather during summer months. In March 1887, over 2,000 laborers came to Coronado, California to construct the Hotel del Coronado, the largest resort in the world at the time. A large amount of workers stayed in Imperial Beach and some would later make it their permanent homestead. The city incorporated in 1956. The climate is mild summer and winter, with temperatures often in the upper 70's in the summer and the 60's during winter.

We than drove east and south in search of the "wall" marking the border. We did not have far to go!
We found small "ranches" on the US side, semi-rural, and many lots hosting RVs. It was an interesting field trip!

We did not cross over into Mexico. We have no desire to do so!

Later!
