WOW!

Image
We are speechless! How does one describe such a grand experience as a total solar eclipse? Are we ready for another! Of course! Lindy's "Picture", at beginning.... We had to fight with fog to see it. We awoke to fog in the morning. We excitedly watched it became thinner, even allowing the sun to shine through. At 9:04, we watched, with our solar glasses on, the tiny black spot beginning to cover the sun. Click on the picture to the left to make it bigger. You can maybe see the small corner at the bottom right of the moon covering the sun. Remember, I said I was not going to take any pictures--I wanted to enjoy the experience. I did!  Then at 9:41, the fog thickened, blocking much of the sun. At 10:16, however, the special effects of totality broke through! We could see the total eclipse! What an awesome experience! Truly worthy of the description "once in a lifetime!" Temperature at 8:50 AM  ( 61 degrees) Temperature at 9:50 AM (58 degrees)

Eclipse Excitement

Image
A change in our plans this summer has us back at Lincoln City and we are excited! It looks like the weather is even cooperating! We know that the chance of cloud cover is still "in the cards" but we will take whatever the weather offers us on Monday for we are excited about just being able to experience a total eclipse! This collage of images shows the progression of a total solar eclipse. Credit: David McNew/GettyImage Lindy had ordered a solar filter for her zoom lens, even! She researched taking pictures of the solar eclipse on line, and printed out a few articles. Her research on that lens was not complete, however, as Amazon sent an email stating that the seller could not confirm the safety of the lens. Hence, Amazon would refund the cost of the lens, which didn't need to be returned, along with a warning to NOT use the lens in taking pictures of the eclipse. Okay, fine! After in depth research confirming Amazon's decision, Lindy also discovered advise th

On the Oregon Coast!

At the beach in an "Oregon Mist"...just a little rain.... How accurate are your weather forecasts? After a little more than a week here on the Oregon Coast, we have discovered that we really cannot believe the weather forecast! The day after we arrived, we were to meet Beverly for lunch. The day started out with beautiful blue, clear skies, with lots of sunshine! As we sat eating lunch, the fog rolled in! Beverly had chosen that day for lunch and a photo shoot for a new housing listing based on the weather forecast...! The fog stayed around until about 3....! We have had rain, cloudy skies, partly cloudy skies, beautiful clear, blue skies--typical Oregon Coast weather! Often, all in one day! The problem is we part-timers here on the Oregon Coast are not used to that "typical" Oregon Coast weather! We are getting a refresher course in it! And it really is a great experience! Usually, the clouds form in the morning, then burn off by noon. We can sit outside in t

Out our Window-- Spring 2017

April 13:  The Riders departed for points north by north west! Las Vegas, NV  Ely, NV Sparks, NV Lakeview, OR Canyonville, OR Eugene, OR......(Lincoln City, OR and North Bend, WA to follow) Of course we had snow in Ely! Sparks was good, snow at Tahoe which changed our sightseeing! We made it from Lakeview over the pass to I-5 to Canyonville before a snow storm, so the weather gods were gentle with us! Remember, you can click on a picture to make it larger. Ely - Snow! Not as much as last year, tho'. Truckee River, east of Sparks at flood stage! Truckee River, at Marble Bluff Dam, flowing into Pyramid Lake Maddie LOVES that her truck travels with the motor home!  Yep! A little snow on Reno side of Tahoe! South of Incline Village.... Snow on the mountains! We geocached, especially around Lakeview. Going around Upper Klamath Lake we enjoyed lunch sitting in the rig right by the lake (see pictures below). How many tow trucks does it take

Paws and Friends are Back!

And do we have a story to tell! Or, make that stories! Like why did we both drive a vehicle from the Pacific North West to North Ranch? But let's save those stories for later! First things first! Allow us to introduce our new "Paws" of Paws and Friends:  Meet Miss Maddie! She is a black-headed tri-color Pembroke Welsh Corgi, slightly overweight, with LOTS of love to go around (except for Rupert who shows his jealousy and unwillingness to let go of the O.D. --only dog--title.) Maddie gives Rupert a wide berth, but when Mike sits down on the couch, it is a race to see who gets there first! Usually, it is Maddie! She is very agile, and has been on every piece of furniture in the motor home! However, she only gets in Lindy's chair when she needs to "show" that she is indeed around and needs to be noticed! When she is on the chair she "looks around" to be sure that all can see just where she is! You know, that kind of innocent look....! We
