Remember when we told you a little about crested saguaros? Well, if you don't, you'll just have to go to Google! Check out Google today, just for fun on this Christmas Day! Now, back to crested saguaros. We recently went out for a 26 mile round trip ride, and had a great time in the Northern Sonoran Desert. Check out this, and can you name it? (Click on a picture to make it larger) Do you think it looks like an elephant ? If so, you are correct! We understand this crested saguaro is so named! What about this one? We didn't find this one on the web site, Crested Saguaros of Yavapai County , but we called it "the Chair.!" If that is what you named it, we both win! If you saw something else, enter your suggestions in the comments below! Here are some others we saw: If you are having trouble doing your research, here is a link that may help you. Did you check out Google? Merry Christmas! Hope you enjoyed our littl

Goodbye Fall! Welcome the Next--Happy Holidays!

It is time to change the title picture of our blog! After all, the leaves are mostly gone, and it even is a bit chilly in the mornings! But that does not stop us from exploring this beautiful desert area, as you will note from our last entry. And, we have already had "our winter!" Remember Buffalo, WY? We experienced a beautiful fall! We saw the changing aspens around Heber City, UT, and enjoyed the changing colors here at North Ranch. Now the leaves are gone. Time to move on! Buffalo, WY mid September  "Our Winter!" The new "title" picture is another view from our buggy rides out in the "outback" of North Ranch! Here is the "retired" view from the top of Round Mountain, out in the "outback" to the south east of us. You know from our previous entries that we do not just sit around! The three Roving Riders, Rupert and his humans, went on a ride to Round Mountain with North Ranch Outdoors. We understood the path up

Javelina Sighting, Fred and Ginger...Just Stuff!

Sunrise at Freightliner- Tollenson, AZ Haven't heard from us in a while, have you? Well, let me tell you--The Riders have been busy doing "stuff!" Stuff like taking the rig into Tollenson (Phoenix) for its yearly service, going down one day, returning the next.   The Riders have adopted two common areas (green spaces at the end of our street and the one to our north). This required trimming the cactus (we decided we'd rather work with the wild blackberries of the Pacific Northwest than cactus!), weeding, raking the area so that it looks "nice".  Mike bought some pots, and installed them properly in the area. We think it looks pretty nice! We enjoy the activity--gets us out working "in the yard"! Of course all the trimming required a way to get rid of the trimmings, so we hooked up the utility trailer and hauled it to the transfer yard. Fortunately, there is free yard waste until the end of December. Privacy fence Then we are having a pr

Bob and Jo of How to Love Where You Are and Eat Where the Locals Eat!! have been lot sitting next to us for the last couple of weeks and we have been having fun! One of the main activities have been exploring the surrounding desert in our 4 seater "desert mobile", our blue buggy! None of these excursions out into the desert disappointed us! Lindy was reminded of Bryd Baylor's book  The Desert is Theirs . Now this is billed as a children's book, but if you have come across any of her books, you, along with Lindy, will dispute that label. Baylor says that "You may think of the desert as a harsh, dry place where no one would ever want to live--but think again." Here we go:  The Desert Is..... Crested Saguaro Saguaro in the sun The Desert Visitors..... Fallen Saguaro--ribs still standing.... We always enjoy our journeys out and about the land surrounding North Ranch, and we believe Bob and Jo did as well. And,

Update: Roving Riders Roosting.....!

Sunday November 2:  Congress AZ  Currently 58, high 64, low tonight 44  (Yikes! A cool down! To that we say YEA!!!) It has been warm--for us...! In the mid 80's--and as we have made a few trips down to the Goodyear/Phoenix area where it has been in the mid 90's, we are always glad to get back to North Ranch where it is around 10 degrees cooler than the valley! We look forward to the cooler weather coming...could it be because of the BWE....? We are at North Ranch--"roosting" on our lot. We made the drive down from Fairgrounds RV Park in Prescott Valley October 12, arriving about 9:30, plenty of time to play the lot shuffle:  moving the Blue Buggy and the utility trailer out of the lot and backing the coach in. It took us just under two hours to accomplish this task, as we had to unwrap the Blue Buggy, put the battery back in and move it out, then hook up and pull the trailer out. We then backed in the coach, plugged it in to electricity, and grabbed a bite to eat
