Long Overdue Update! Ellensburg and our Month at Valley Camp!

Image
We are currently in Valley Camp, east of North Bend WA, our fifth year here--a place we and the dogs love--Bandit, Rusty and Puff, then Rupert and Bitty. Bitty really loved it here! Mike would be walking and she would be yanked to a stop as Bitty had stopped to roll in the grass! These desert dogs really appreciate grass when they find it! It is bitter sweet to return to her favorite place. As we have hiked familiar hikes, the memories have come back. We also had Bitty's remains sent here from Oregon, so picking them up brought it "real" once again, but also has provided a certain closure. We have her paw print, and the connected hearts--"forever in our hearts"....so we are moving on, celebrating her memory!  We spent Wednesday, June 4 through Friday June 6 in Ellensburg, WA where we watched Mike's great niece enjoy her high school graduation! It was great fun seeing all the fun Ally and her friends had during the ceremony--at 8:00 PM on Friday night....

Repair Revisited.....Harrisburg, OR

Image
Remember our posting of April 25, 2014 ,  where we discussed the repair to our Satellite Radio? Well, we have an update, a positive one for Elite RV Repair, Remodel and RV Restoration for they "stood by their work". However, it was nerve-racking for us as we changed our plans and of course worried about all possible outcomes-- which we shouldn't have as the problem was easily solved. The weather was warm as we traveled from Eugene to Champoeg, so we turned on the dash air conditioning in the coach. It blew only warm air! We then started the generator and ran the roof air, and called Elite RV Repair and Remodel to relay the problem to them. They did not think the work they did could cause the A/C to not work properly, but did insist that we bring the coach there first so they could look at it to insure that they were not responsible for the problem. We made an appointment for our next "free" couple of days--June 1-3. The section of the dash on our coach co

Geocachers Are We!!

We also did some real world treasure hunting, geocaching! Lincoln City is a GREAT place for seeking these real-world treasures. For those readers not familiar with geocaching, check out the www.geocaching.com website. During our visit last September we found several caches by Beachguy, a retired educator who has hid a number of geocaches in Lincoln City, so we sought out more of his caches. Lindy used an app on her smartphone which makes it handy. There are several apps on both iPhones and Smartphones for geocaching which makes the hobby more affordable and accessible--as long as there is data coverage! Lindy located some geocaches, stored them on her phone, then we embarked on this adventure, exploring more areas of the city and learning a bit more about the area plus having a good time! Here is a picture where the geocache " Peak at the Bay " was hidden. Don't you love the play on words? Great view, out onto Siletz Bay. At another cache site we found some fan

More Thoughts on the Beautiful Oregon Coast at Lincoln City

Image
Lincoln City was formed in 1965 from the small towns of Nelscott, Wecoma Beach, Taft, Cutler City, Delake and Oceanlake. Flags proudly fly along US 101, honoring the names of these communities as you drive through each. If you dare turn off, perhaps to seek a geocache, you'll see the arch of "Oceanlake" or "Historic Taft District". Another fun thing to do while in Lincoln City-- exploring these unique communities. The RV Park is in the Taft Historic District, which has the public beach access at location 49 we referenced in an earlier post. Seal Beach is an attraction here, the seals that we saw in the surf sun themselves on a sand bar across the inlet and you can stand on the shore across the inlet and listen to all the barking! We ate at Mo's in the Historic Taft District and watched people throw out their crab traps--hoping for crabs. There is a trail that hugs the cliff heading north to "our" beach access, #48, (with a few geocaches alo

Enjoying the Coast!

After our first trip on the beach Being on the Oregon Coast is NOT complete unless one spends time on the beach and that we have done EACH day we have been here! What fun we have had! Rupert got a chance to play ball, we looked for "treasures" including some agates, shells and other small rocks, and in general spent  time just enjoying the sounds and sights of the breakers.  Look what we did with the rocks and agates! Even added a red rock for the cherry! We did mention earlier that there were some steps Steps to the upper level in the RV Park involved for beach access didn't we? From our site down to the main level in the park are 24 steps. Then it takes about five minutes to walk across the road and down to the stairs leading to beach access. Here there are 76 stairs with four landings! They added something positive to the experience--well, mostly positive! You'll see that Rupert, with his short legs, did have a problem going UP the stairs....!
