More Thoughts on the Beautiful Oregon Coast at Lincoln City
Lincoln City was formed in 1965 from the small towns of Nelscott, Wecoma Beach, Taft, Cutler City, Delake and Oceanlake. Flags proudly fly along US 101, honoring the names of these communities as you drive through each. If you dare turn off, perhaps to seek a geocache, you'll see the arch of "Oceanlake" or "Historic Taft District". Another fun thing to do while in Lincoln City-- exploring these unique communities. The RV Park is in the Taft Historic District, which has the public beach access at location 49 we referenced in an earlier post. Seal Beach is an attraction here, the seals that we saw in the surf sun themselves on a sand bar across the inlet and you can stand on the shore across the inlet and listen to all the barking!
We ate at Mo's in the Historic Taft District and watched people throw out their crab traps--hoping for crabs. There is a trail that hugs the cliff heading north to "our" beach access, #48, (with a few geocaches along the way!). One can walk the beach further north past the Inn at Spanish Head if the tide is out. The Inn at Spanish Head is a beautiful facility with each room having an ocean view spanning several floors above the ocean. We recommend the restaurant and bar, should one prefer to see the sights of the ocean from the inside in addition to from the beach! The view from both the bar and restaurant is fantastic! There is a walkway just north of the RV Park that will take you under 101 and right into the lobby of the Inn at Spanish Head. The bar and restaurant is one floor up from the lobby! If you are parked at the Premier RV Resort Lincoln City, you will receive a coupon for Fathoms Bar in your registration packet!
We are not sure if it is because the RV Resort is in Taft, which is the southern-most part of Lincoln City, or if it is those 76 steps...or perhaps the time of year, for the beach was never crowded, especially in the morning. There might be four to six other people. The closer we got to the Siletz Bay area, we might meet a few more, but once we would turn and go back north, we would have the beach pretty much to ourselves! Memorial Day weekend was an exception--perhaps there were 15 to 20 on the beach. We know it will get busier as summer progresses. Highway 101 is not so busy early in the morning--MUCH easier to cross than later in the day. And as traffic picks up on 101, we know more people are coming to the beaches. We still think Beach Access #48 is prime real estate!
At the turn-off into the Taft Historic District/Beach Access is a jewel of a place: Captain Dan's Pirate Pastry
Shop! We purchased marionberry turnovers more times than we should have--they were delicious!
We have enjoyed ourselves during our stay at Premier RV Resort at Lincoln City and that is why we do what we do. Full time RVing IS fun! We do what we want, when we want to! We discover little things along with the great! In Lincoln City, we have found several little things that together made this experience GREAT! We will be back! We made reservations to return for there is much more of Lincoln City to explore and many more geocaches to log!
The Roving Riders will be SWIRVIN back to Lincoln City in 2015!
