Update--Finally!

We left Elkhart, IN, July 19, Thursday morning, through a downpour, the first rain they had received since March 3, for Joliet, IL. While in Joliet, we met an old college friend of Lindy's, Ruth Hunt Mendius and her husband Larry. We had a great time chatting in the motor home and continuing the chatter over lunch!

From Joliet we traveled through Iowa, spending one night in North Liberty then across the state the next
day to Shelby, IA. Monday, July 23 we traveled 99 miles to Pender, NE, to the Blue Ox Campground (VERY nice! and free to Blue Ox owners and Escapees!)  on site at the Blue Ox factory and service center. We bought our tow bar for the jeep in February 2008, and we had never had it serviced. We had an appointment, and about an hour before, a young gentleman knocked on our door, picked up the tow bar, and delivered it for its servicing. About 2 1/2 hours later he returned with the tow bar, helped us get it back in the hitch on the coach, and explained a little about what was done and what we need to do yearly!!!!  All for $25! We are keeping Pender on our "map" of excellent campgrounds!

From Pender we traveled to Kearney, NE, to a park similar to Shelby, IA....by a corn field, and VERY dusty! We changed our plans staying there only one night, and added two nights to Sidney, Cabela's RV Park, located by their flagship store...and were we glad we did! It is a beautiful park, and allows for great shopping at one of our favorite stores!

There was a paved path from the campground that went around to the Corporate Offices, then up the hill to the scene below, just before the main entrance to the store.

We found some history!!! Cabela's donated land to the Pony Express, and what a grand memorial it was! See pics below!

We have "discovered" Pony Express stops in Nevada, now this one in Nebraska....more for a future trip to further explore...!

On our way from Sidney to Rawlins, we stopped at a rest area and found these! Interstate 80 follows pretty closely the Lincoln Highway...so the rest area was dedicated to Lincoln.

Then there are these, from the Archway Monument in Kearney, NE, a great place to visit regarding all the pioneer trails headed west and the Lincoln Highway! (There is that history again!)

By the way, Jo and Bob; we found Cookies B-B-Q Sauce! We just might save you a bottle....!

Here is the map of our travels to date, and for the next 6 days!  Tomorrow we'll travel each day, moving across Wyoming, Utah, Idaho, and into Oregon. Oregon or Bust!!!

  1. We do you like Cookie's BBQ sauce. You gave us a couple good RV parks to add to our list. Safe travels, man that is an aggressive travel schedule.

  2. But the distance each day is GOOD! Tomorrow only 139 miles! We made each leg from here on in easy bites! Add another park to your list: Fort Bridger RV Park. Super nice!
