12-12-12 and Geocaching

On this "special" day we wanted to do a Geocache, and found a nice one just across the road from North Ranch, BOF Anniversary Cache. Geocaching.com has a special souvenir for any geocachers who attend a special 12-12-12 or log a "Found it" on this day. Here is that souvenir.

For those of you not familiar with Geocaching, it is a free, real-world outdoor treasure hunt. Players try to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, using a GPS or smartphone, then record their experiences on line. Be sure to checkout the link for geocaching, view the short video, and sign up! It is free! And for each state where you log a cache, you receive a souvenir of that state on your Geocache profile! We currently have 19 states "logged." Working to get more! In addition, we have the special Leap Year Souvenir. These special events, and other timely information is listed in the geocache weekly update. Be sure to sign up for it!

Trackables add an additional layer of fun to the sport. A Trackable is a sort of physical geocaching "game piece." You will often find them in geocaches or see them at geocaching gatherings. Each Trackable is etched with a unique code that can be used to log its movements on Geocaching.com as it travels in the real world. Some of these items have traveled hundreds of thousands of miles thanks to geocachers who move them from cache to cache!

Recently Lindy had an opportunity to request a John Grisham Racketeer Geocoin, 999.9 pure, as part of a promotion for his new book. The tracking code for Lindy's is JGF15T.  Click here to see the promotional page of the JR Racketeer Geocoins. We are NOT placing our JR Racketeer Geocoin! Rather, we shall take it along with us as we cache and have it "visit" each cache! That way, we can see him travel, but still keep him in our collection!

By the way, we had to buy the book THE RACKETEER to see why it was a new gold standard for mystery! Read it we did--doing little else until we were finished!

We haven't logged a lot of caches yet, but geocaching is something we enjoy doing, often locating caches associated with a history unique to the area. A fun learning opportunity! After all  we ARE lifelong learners!

Later!

Roving Riders -- NOT Swirvin On Down the Road just yet.... Rather enjoying the cool sunny days of Arizona at North Ranch
