Crested Saguaro Near North Ranch

Crested Saguaro are rare, one in 250,000 (according to cactus-art.biz) and can take many forms. See this from Saguaro National Park, Arizona.  About a month ago we attended a North Ranch Outdoors meeting, mainly to find out more about the ATV/UTV roads behind the park. At the meeting we found out about crested saguaros near us, on the road to Stanton, about 6 miles away. We were able to record coordinates for the spot, and today drove out in the jeep to locate them.

We succeeded! We love the Saguaros, and to see this one is just fuel for us to continue our search of these rare cacti!

We hiked to this one from the road. Later we explored a couple of roads and identified which to take for next time!

Cool!

Happy Trails!

    2. Fantastic! I was also interested to learn there are SIX varieties of rattlesnakes in that area. And you're hiking out there? Yikes!!

    3. We were VERY careful!! It was in the afternoon, so one would expect the snakes to be either under rocks or in bushes in the shade....We still stepped wide of any bushes, made noise, and kept looking all around! And of course we left the dogs at home!
