Some Thoughts on Campgrounds--The So-So, and the Very Good!

We enjoyed our time visiting Yosemite, but we did have some concerns about our RV Park, and the inconsistencies in the information found on the Good Sam Directory on line and the reality we experienced. Roads and sites are tight. Getting in was not a problem for us for the Camp Host was there and recommended our site and helped us get into it by going through another site. What would happen if there were more rigs in these sites?

Sierra Meadows RV Park is managed by the Sierra Meadows Country Club, and our thought is that the Country Club and 18 hole golf course takes precedent over the park.  The Camp Host is doing a super job, and he is the reason we stayed, and will return, ONLY if he and his wife are there. The laundry and restrooms are older, but very clean, thanks to the good work of the camp host.

Good Sam indicates there are big rig sites. Not so, unless sites are not occupied to facilitate movement.  Good roads? No, roads are crumbling, not in good condition. The Golf Course across the road manages the park, and since there was not a lawn mower available to the Camp Host (who IS the reason we stayed, and will return ONLY if he and his wife are there! Said that already, didn't I?!), they were spraying the grass to kill it, over the objections (pleadings!) of the camp host. Sites are "terraced" sort of...You will find that outside your door you tend to "roll uphill". We parked the jeep in the site above us. Thankfully the park was not full. A rig did pull in just below us. When their awning was out, one had to be careful walking between the rigs.

The bathrooms and laundry were older, but very clean--due to the hard work of the Camp Host. The information on their website advises the park guest to go to the Country Club Clubhouse for checkin....DON'T! If the camp host is on site, go first to the park, talk to him, park your rig, then drive up to the Clubhouse with your site number. If you do take your rig to the Clubhouse, turn into the open area (dirt, but better than advancing down to the clubhouse), then walk down to the Clubhouse.
Sierra Meadows--see the very green golf course across the street....?

We did find a KOA outside of Mariposa that can handle big rigs, and is on the road into the west entrance to Yosemite.

We left there for Redding, CA, staying at the very nice Redding Premier RV Resort! We have stayed at the Eugene and Salem parks, and have had Redding on our "list!" It is a perfect 10 in Good Sam, and did not disappoint! We were in the new section. Be sure to visit their web site, for they do post specials for the "off" season.... We added two days with one free here....

Everyone we have met in our journeys have told us to stay at Seven Feathers, another perfect 10 in the Good Sam Directory....and that one for sure did NOT disappoint! We extended our stay here as well! We will return!

Seven Feathers....!

  1. Picking a campground is an adventure for sure. The last two looked like winners.
