Utah: Golden Spike, Rockets! And Weather...

Golden Spike RV Park, in Brigham City, is a nice park. Sites are close together, as you can see in the picture at the left, but ample for the purpose. Our site, number 1, is right at the exit, so we can head straight out. The tree blocked our satellite signal, but their cable worked well! We will definitely return, especially if we can get our favorite site, number 1!

We had planned this trip so we could see the Golden Spike National Historic Site. In spite of the government shutdown, we decided that we would drive out to the site just to see what we could see. We are glad we did and we had plenty of company! Weather was cool (in the 40's when we started, finally hitting 50 degrees around noon!) but sunny. The auto tours that we had planned on were closed, as was the trail out to The Big Fill, but we were able to see exhibits around the outside of the visitor's center, and evidence of the original grade of the railroad tracks as we drove around. But, as with most places where we have visited, this one is added to "our return to list." We shall be back when full exploration is available!

The Original Grade....Heading West!
On our return we followed a sign for "Rocket Exhibit" and found these at the ATK Launch Systems Rocket display. The big NASA rocket launched the shuttle, others launched missiles used by the armed forces.

All week long the local TV channels have been talking up the storm:  Snow in the valley! Windy! Cold! We had some wind, but not gusts of 50 mph, thankfully! We had cold, running the heater more than "just a bit", but the only snow for us is on the peaks of the mountains around us! The storm hit to the north and east of us, and curled around to the south, bringing wind and stormy conditions to the area south of Salt Lake City. We dodged another bullet! Tomorrow we head south, and future casts seem pretty positive!

Here are some pics showing snow on the peaks, and the fall colors marching down and around the mountains.

We've had fun! The Weather Gods have been good to us! We will be moving on down the road, hunting for sunnier, warmer days!

We are the Roving Riders, SWIRVIN On Down the Road!
