Update - Summer 2019 - End of May to Present: Rupert and Snow Themes

Rafter J Bar Ranch Campground
It has been a while since our last posting. Let's see if we can remedy that! We are
currently enjoying the coolness of the Black Hills just south of Hill City in South Dakota. We have "explored" Colorado, ventured into Wyoming, then on into Montana where we spent July at Yellowstone's Edge, south of Livingston. The first of August found the Riders moving on to the Walberg Homestead in Mitchell, then on to our current spot.

We talked of the SNOW in Dolores in the previous post. We were able to travel on down the road (one of our "longest" travel days....NOT) to Mesa Verde RV Resort, Mancos, Colorado  (31 miles 😊).

Out our window to the northeast, Mesa Verde RV Resort
There we enjoyed the snow-capped mountains surrounding us. Even Sleeping Ute to the west wore a cap of snow! Our view out the window was of these mountains from the end of May into June. What a GREAT yard/patio to have!
Sunrise at Mesa Verde RV Resort
Rupert explored using his wheel cart on the grass in the dog walk area. He
traveled to and from the dog walk area in his stroller. His time in the wheel cart was limited to short intervals, even playing soccer for short intervals!

Lindy and Mike visited the Canyons of the Ancients National Monument Visitors Center just outside of Cortez.  This Visitors Center and Museum holds a 3.5 million-item research collection. We enjoyed reviewing the history of the historic Pueblo, Ute and Navajo Native Americans of the area, for this is very near our old "stomping ground" of 40 years in New Mexico!

Mt. Hesperus
We drove up several hundred feet elevation to view up close Mount Hesperus -- Navajo Sacred Mountain Dibẻ Nitsaa, thanks to directions from our neighbor. He warned us to NOT go if raining--good advice! We could see the results of past rains, but our travel day was a good "fair" day. Of course Lindy's elevation app on her phone did not work--no cell service--but we did determine we were at least 8000 feet.

Mid June was time to move on down the road, spanning the space between southern Colorado and southern Montana. Additional Colorado stops included Grand Junction and Meeker. And guess what! On a pass from Meeker into Wyoming we ran into snow...!

Half way into the Ride
We spent a week in Dubois,  Wyoming, at the Longhorn Ranch and RV Park, where Lindy and Mike embarked on a two-hour misadventure horseback ride. Well, the misadventure was NOT  entirely the ride--rather a few seconds before the ride. The horse in front of Mike's horse pulled some shenanigans causing Mike's horse to do the same; sending Mike on her kister. It took a good three weeks for Mike to recover! A question both Lindy and Mike are pondering:  What are individuals their age doing riding horses?!

After a short stay in Cody, Wyoming, we ended up July 1 at Yellowstone's Edge RV Park, our destination for the month! And we thoroughly enjoyed it! At this point, Rupert was in his cart all the time to "do his business."  There was LOTS of grass at Yellowstone's Edge for him to exercise!

We had a fabulous time at  the Walberg Homestead! Maddie and Rupert took
Maddie on HER PORCH!
over the area! It was THEIR yard! For Maddie, it was all HERS! We have never laughed so hard as we did one evening playing cards! We are SO glad we had the
chance to spend time with Jerry and Mary. A great time was had by all!

There now! Are you caught up? Please post your comments/questions/thoughts! We will respond!

We are in the Black Hills for 10 more days, then the Riders will be SLOWLY heading south for the Ranch....being careful to arrive AFTER the HEAT there!

The Riders, enjoying coolness, waiting for the SWIRVIN on down the road.
