Out Our Window....

Currently in East Glacier KOA  84 degrees (feels like 82!)
High  85   Low 56   Partly Cloudy--VERY Smokey!

Our last post described the slackening of the Reynolds Creek Fire along St. Mary Lake in East Glacier. We had a few very nice days of no smoke and glorious weather, even if we had to have some heat in the mornings!

We are introducing a new "series" of posts describing what we see out of our window, for as we travel, we are constantly changing our "yard".  We will share these views with you!

So, here we go--the last post ended with this shot out our window:

Monday morning, about 10 AM

This is what we are seeing out our window now. The smoke is blocking all but the closer mountain.  Yesterday, about 3:30, this is what we saw:

Sunday afternoon--New Fire East Glacier!
It is a new fire in East Glacier, the Thompson Creek Fire, which started about 3:30 Sunday, along Thompson Creek, about a mile southeast of Mount Thompson, to the east of Lake McDonald. They are saying that the fire is about 500 acres now. It is just the second blaze in Glacier this season...let's hope it is easily contained.

orange highlighter marks the general area of the Thompson Fire
The Going to the Sun Road is open from the East across to West Glacier, and we drove it Friday. We had a glorious day, and will share pictures in a later post.

We have enjoyed the varying views out our window during our stay here. We will be moving on tomorrow to a new view! Stay tuned!

Roving Riders, SWIRVIN on down the road!

  1. Hi there! We are currently in East Glacier at St. Mary's campground and it is no where near as warm as when you were here. Only in the 40s/30s. The fires are almost out and we had some great smoke free days and warm weather for a while. We've been in the WA/ID/MT smoke for weeks. We found your geocache yesterday, the blue Paws and Friends (Fred340). We are heading through Utah in a couple of days to AZ. We'll hide it there. We are fulltimers (a year+ now) and travel with Hurley, a sweet rescue dog. Just wanted to drop you a note. I'll look through your blog over the next few days :-)
