Been Thinkin'--
Last July we entered our fifth year "full-timing" in a home on wheels. We had just purchased our third (and final we say!) motor home. Looking back, transitioning from trailers to motor homes, we never intended to go past our first motor home, our Allegro Bay. But experience, looks, and functionality intervened and we traded for our 2012 Phaeton. Again, we had no intention of another rig. We read about the 37 AP Allegro Bus the first year it came out, and liked what we read and saw. Then we parked next to one in Memphis, Davis Motorhome Mart.... Rest is history!
We are enjoying each of the unique aspects of our new home on wheels. Certainly we have met challenges, just as we did with our first two. Yet something is different...our current challenges do not distract from the everyday living--we can still function, just need to make minor adjustments. We celebrate our good fortune.
This past summer we were in Cape Girardeau, MO, enjoying the sights and history of the area. The Mississippi was high then. This past December, it was higher than the flood of 1993. We looked at our photos from the river wall that showed the flood line of 1993 (click on the picture to make it larger). Wow! It brought to light the challenges those residents faced this past December.
We departed Cape Girardeau a day early, as the campground where we parked was down in a depression, heading for Illinois. While parked there, we were close, but not in the path, of nine tornadoes across the state. In Sioux Falls, SD, at 1:00 AM, we were awakened by a siren, and headed to the campground shelter. We were able to return safely to our coach after about 30 minutes. Storms in November and December spawned tornadoes across Texas and Oklahoma.... We think back over our new-found understanding of the fear, can it be called a challenge, of facing weather situations....
October, November and December brought wind, rain, flooding, and mud slides to the Pacific North West...and we were "chilly" at North Ranch--but not cold. There were no mud slides, no flooding...we had it pretty good.
We enjoyed Christmas at North Ranch, cool weather, but no driving rain or snow. The sun shone, and you will note that all of us (especially Rupert) enjoyed the fire place!
All in all, we celebrate each day as it presents itself, another day to enjoy the "now", where ever we might be.
