Riders in Nevada: Beatty RV Park, Goldfield , Hawthorne and Carson City

Death Valley Inn and RV
We stayed at the Death Valley Inn and RV Park while in Beatty. From what we had read, it sounded like the best and after our visit to the area, we agree! Roads and pad were gravel--at one time pea gravel with mostly dirt now. Rain certainly would present some problems, but we only saw a few drops of rain. We enjoyed the green of the trees and their shade. We would stay there again.

We drove through Goldfield, and Lindy took these pictures as we drove through town. What we saw
Goldfield, NV
sparked our interest in Goldfield--a place where we plan on spending more time.

Moving on down the road we spent a night in Hawthorne, at Whiskey Flats RV Park. In keeping with our 200 mile a day plan, we arrived early in the afternoon, providing plenty of opportunity to explore the area around the park on foot. Lindy found a geoccacher's heaven! There were several caches all within walking distance! Only problem was that the main geocache site was down for maintenance. Fortunately, she had stored five in her phone, so the Riders walked to the deserted area
Our site in Hawthorne, NV -- Whiskey Flats RV Park
adjacent to the park to seek a couple of caches. Lindy walked across the street to locate one, and Mike and Lindy walked down to the Dollar General store and found a cache in the area. We stopped at Safeway walking back to the motor home and bought dinner:  potato salad and a roasted chicken--delicious! And we had meat for sandwiches the next day!

In reading about the caches next to the park, we discovered that the area was a housing development named "Babbit" during World War II. There is the Hawthorne Ordnance Museum to visit. Then of course there are ALL those geocaches that Lindy wants to find! Hawthorne, the Riders WILL RETURN!

April 9th found the riders close to snow! We stopped at a rest area where, guess what, Lindy had stored a
cache to log, and off to the west were snow capped mountains! We are getting close to the Sierras!

We had 120 miles to go--a short day by our standards.....and arrived at Silver City RV Resort just north of Minden, NV. It is really close to Carson City, yet away from the city
enough to be very pleasant. We have stayed here before and do enjoy the park, especially this time of year when there are lots of empty sites!

And look at all that snow! We have had to run the heater in the morning to get the chill out--local temps have been around 32..... But daytime temps have been in low to mid 70's. Truly great weather!

Our plans took a turn while in the area. Bitty, our female Corgi, has been "working at" eating rocks since we left North Ranch. This escalated at Beatty and Hawthorne, so Mike googled it. Her results of the search indicated that we needed to seek veterinarian help for our little gal. We found the Carson Valley Veterinarian Hospital with excellent reviews, however, they were booked for the next two weeks. The gal did give Mike an option by calling at 7:00 am April 10, to see if there were any cancellations. She did so, and we were able to get an appointment that afternoon, and we are glad we did! They admitted Bitty, starting fluid therapy (to help remove all the rocks she had in her innards), and to treat her anemia, and try to get her blood count up--giving her real iron instead of what she might have found by eating rocks!

They kept her two nights, Thursday and Friday. We visited her both days, immediately seeing the results of the treatment! We picked her up Saturday afternoon--so glad to have our little girl back. Rupert, however, not quite so happy!

We adjusted our travel, staying another day in the area, to give Bitty a chance to recover--and to be near the vet in case she did not! We spent some time with Lindy's cousin, Denny. We will save all the sightseeing around here for another time. We did find the area beautiful, and of course the veterinarian hospital top notch!
