We Bid Eugene Farewell....
We stayed longer than originally intended, in fact we had no plans for three days between Eugene and our
reservations at Champoeg State Park near St. Paul, OR. We do like to build in flexibility in our planning...! And it 'twas a good thing, as we had a very nice site (#145), pulled in to the pond and the weather gods treated us to some glorious real sunshine along with the standard Oregon sunshine....translate-RAIN! Premier Eugene is a good place to be when it rains, for there is grass and pavement. There is little mud that one will encounter there!
Our site was a couple over from Casey, the Bird Patrol dog. He and his master are responsible for keeping geese away from the pond and the campground. A few years ago we avoided the pond sites, and we not too happy about being in the row of sites near the pond sites as they were peppered with geese poop! Thanks to Casey and his master, only a pair of geese kept testing their resolve.
Several ducks (of course there would be DUCKS! After all, this IS duck country!) populated the area. Mommy duck keeping busy sitting on eggs. This morning, we saw a mommy with several ducklings--at least 10, which must have just hatched! She had them in the water near the shore, while she was busy eating! The drakes (yep! 2!) came to help corral the little ones while Mom ate. Was fun! While all this was going on, the pair of geese had come up to Casey's site twice--like teasing them. Finally Casey and his master came out and chased the pair away, just when the geese seemed to be heading for the ducklings. Do geese pose a treat to ducklings? We shall not know the end of this tail, for we departed before we saw the ducklings again!
A Camping World Super Center has recently opened in Coburg (the small town where the RV Resort actually is) with a huge flag flying--Camping World's signature "mark" of all of their Super Centers--honoring Veterans. There wasn't a place in the RV park where the flag was not visible! It was a pretty sight!
Then of course there were double rainbows! And Lindy couldn't resist the reflections in the pond --when the wind wasn't kicking up waves...!
We drove 179.5 miles from Rogue River RV Park to Premier Eugene. Both of these parks are keepers! We shall return! Here is our route:
