New State on our Map! New "Souvenir" for Geocaching!
Here we are in Minnesota! (And you have to say it "Min ne a so' ta! (Well, only if you are a Swede!) And it is a grand park! We are in Country Campground, south of Detroit Lakes, with 30 sites, which are grassy/hard parked dirt, with a concrete patio and picnic table at each site. We have 50 amps, water, sewer and cable. We are receiving our satellite signals, depending on
the rain....
Rain did chase us here. In fact, we debated leaving Jamestown, ND as a storm was coming, potentially severe. We talked to our neighbors there, from Wisconsin, who shared two different thoughts. 1) He didn't think the storm would be too severe; and 2) He would MUCH rather be at a park than drive in a storm...! We decided that we could go on, and probably be at our site before the storm hit....Both of us were a little edgy as we drove down the road. We got fuel at Fargo, noticing once again the black clouds to the west.
We made it, and were almost set up when the rain came, and only rain! When we checked the radar map, all the "bad stuff" was south! The gal in the office said all of the recent storms have missed this area. Yea!!!!
This campground is a keeper, potentially a place for an extended stay as we explore "regions"! Glawe Lake Park area is close by with free paddleboats! We started to count the number of lakes we saw on our way here, thus reducing the total number we would need to see to get to the 10,000 lakes the state brags of.....but we got confused! Let it be said that we are well on our way in seeing the 10,000 lakes of Minnesota! (Well six so far - but who's counting!!!!!!) We will definitely return not only because it is a great campground but because we have to visit Itasca - the only place in the US where you can walk across the Mississippi River!!!!!!!!!
While in Jamestown, ND, Lindy found a cache about Louis L'Amour, a noted Western Author, and town's favorite son, so we had
to check that out since both our families had all of his books and we had read them as well. Come to find
out, Louis LaMoore (before he changed his name) was born and raised in Jamestown. The cache was placed to honor his memory, and so we did! We found it, signed the log, then had to find his writer's shack in the old west town of Jamestown. What a gem of a frontier town! All because we wanted to do a cache in North Dakota!
We found lots of rich information, and have added Jamestown as a place to return to, for further exploration!
And now to the Geocaching Souvenir. One of the reasons we like geocaching is "collecting" state souvenirs from each state/province/country where you log a cache. This is our first time in this part of the country, so here is the "cover" or front of the ND souvenir, and to the right is what is "behind" the cover. Click here for more information on geocaching souvenirs.
The North Dakota souvenir is new, and very nice! We have many states already, but we have many more to go, before we complete that collection! We'll be spending three days in Minnesota--we shall get that souvenir soon!
Later! We have more catching up to do from our visits to small towns and their richness in Montana!
Roving Riders, enjoying a few days in the state of 10,000 lakes!

Rupert had to be carried because of the spaces in the dock...! |
