Being Flexible, Part II....

Currently in Deming, NM  High 66/Low 49  Current temp:  65

Hasn't it been said something that "things" happen in three's...? On Friday that saying "worked" for us!

  1. leak someplace under kitchen sink....
  2. water dripping steadily by external fill of the fresh water tank...and fresh water tank FULL!
  3. power out entire park, and all of Benson--early Saturday morning:  2 - 5 am
Problem #1:  Mike made some calls Friday afternoon, and finally connected with a fellow recommended by two others she called who were unable to come. Wayne arrived about 3:30, and quickly diagnosed the problem--perhaps many of you readers already made the same diagnoses--cramped quarters in that slide out and every time it goes in and out, drain hose rubs on other "stuff", is crimped by the other "stuff" and eventually develops cracks. Plus, he indicated if only they had made the hose a little longer, it would not be "pulled" as much, causing it to be crimped....and it

everything else as the slide comes in and goes out....
would "flow" better as it moved in and out with the slide mechanism. After calling the local hardware store, he left to see what he could find to make the repair. He returned without a section of hose, his recommended repair. Instead, he had some Silicone Rescue Tape, and a couple of clamps, that he installed on the hose. He tested his work, made minor adjustments, then ran lots of water down the drain, with "good results"--that is, found no water leaking through the repaired hose. His recommendation is that we get it addressed as soon as we are able, AND remove the bottom drawer and watch/guide the hose as the slide is brought in each time.

Of course we would not have noticed this problem until we began to move daily--putting out and pulling in the slides more frequently. Our coach is 4 years old--so there has been lots of pulling in and out for that slide...but why isn't this problem addressed in the building process....?  Oh well!  For now, we are good to go here!

Problem #2:  Lindy should have known better! This has been a recurring problem when we are moving frequently! Tiffin told her what to do three years ago. Is the step included on our check list?  NO! But it is now! Tiffin sent a replacement valve, but also told her to shut off the fresh water valve, thus preventing any "leak" into the fresh water tank from the outside hose connection. Upon disconnect, that valve needs to be turned on so the pump will work as we move on down the road. We did not have the valve replaced as the fix worked, and it would be an extensive job for any RV tech. And the "fix" works only if we remember it! Duh!

Problem #3:  The power outage was not really a problem, as we have an inverter, so the power failure did not affect us. Lindy heard the surge protector "clunk" at 2 am, got up and checked the meter, saw that it was inverting, so shut off all the fans to "save electricity". We do have a coffee pot for the stove, and had talked about getting that out but by that time, the power was back on. What is a puzzle is why it was out--for the entire town, for 3 hours..!

From Benson to Deming was about 175 miles, along with moving from Arizona Standard Time into Mountain Daylight Time. We are glad to be tied up for a couple of nights! The LoW-Hi RV Ranch in Deming is very nice! Wide sites with ample room for the rig as well as the toad. Rain welcomed us this morning, helping us with the task of washing off the bugs from the windshield and the front of the motor home.

We shall be on the road tomorrow, moving on to Alamogordo!

Roving Riders, SWIRVIN on down the road in the Land of Enchantment! Later!
