Is That SNOW We See?!!
Currently in Buffalo, WY Temperature 44, feels like 40 Cloudy High 50 Low 34
Showers later, Rain/Snow tonight
We are under a Winter Storm Watch, (4 PM Wednesday the 10 changed to Winter Storm Warning) in effect from late tonight through Thursday afternoon. That cold storm system from Canada will settle into this area through Thursday, with rain changing over to snow later tonight, continuing through the day Thursday. According to the Watch from the National Weather Service snow accumulations will be "2 to 4 inches with locally higher amounts of 6 to 8 inches in or near the foothills. Wind and visibility: north 10 to 20 MPH and gusty with visibility under one half mile at times."
We were to depart Buffalo today and drive US 16 over the Big Horns (pass at 9,666 feet), to Cody. Instead, we decided to stay in our very nice site in Buffalo, and watch the rain and snow fall from the comfort of our cozy home! US 16, a good route to Cody for the motorhome, will still be there later!
Living in Gallup, NM for 40 years, we know these storms can come early in the season, and will pass quickly. We decided we could wait for this one to pass!
Bob and Jo, of How to Love Where You Are and Eat Where the Locals Eat! are in Buffalo. We met them last night for dinner at the Winchester and had a great time catching up on our travels and discussing future travels.
We plan on departing Friday, after we check the Wyoming Department of Transportation Travel Information. Friday's high is forecast at 54. If the roads are not yet clear at the higher elevations on US 16, we shall wait another day to give us more time to explore this area!
We will post our explorations in later posts! Until then, here is a picture of the "supermoon/harvest" moon as it rose over our site September 8.
Roving Riders, enjoying the warmth of our home in Buffalo, WY.
