The SWE--SWIRVIN Weather Effect as we Moved from Houghton to Box Elder!

Our route....

August 24, Sunday:  travel to Cloquet, MN, 233 miles.    STORM!!!  Sooo glad RV park had excellent roads as water, water everywhere! We changed to Cloquet from Northland RV Campground in Wisconsin as our front tires disappeared in one of their ruts on our travel to Houghton,...and it wasn't raining then. Cloquet/Duluth KOA did prove to be a much better choice! This was our first major storm in quite some time! We used their cable, as rain fade killed the satellite signal, so heard all the local warnings:  severe thunder storm, tornado watch in a county (yep! but trusty Weather Call did not have us in that 6 mile area--THANKS, Bob and Jo!) The storms seemed to split around us, thankfully! Monday dawned sunny and warm, with LOTS of water around us, but we were able to pull out toad attached without any problems.

August 25, Monday:  travel to Spicer, MN, 183 miles.    This was an easy, enjoyable day in that miles were "shorter", and we left the interstate about one quarter of the way into the day. MN 23 was a great two-lane road for RV travel! And WestRich RV Park was a jewel, as it had LOTS of grass, the kind Rupert likes, the non-pokey grass!  Just right for playing soccer! We had an end sight, so had lots of room around us, and a huge back yard! Rupert was very happy! We found the town of Spicer very pleasant, much like Detroit Lakes--lots of small lakes around. A destination town.

August 26, Tuesday:  travel to Sioux Falls, SD, 175 miles. We were happy to stop and unwind at Sioux Falls KOA after our 3 days on the road. We had a beautiful site, concrete pad with concrete patio. The roads were nicely graded, with ditches along the sides for run off. Another great place to be should it rain, which it did, especially the morning we departed! That rain followed us half way across South Dakota on Thursday!

Since Sioux Falls has the only Costco along our route since the first of August, we stocked up on needed items, then did some sight seeing. The falls for which the town gets its name were fabulous! We shall spare you the history lesson, however, this time! Enjoy the pictures!

August 28, Thursday:  travel to Box Elder, SD-- Americas Campground, 338 miles. This is our "home"--our chosen domicile. Americas Mailbox has put in a campground which does provide an additional service as we can then use the campground address to renew our driver's license. This is our 5th year of full-timing, so drivers' licenses are up for renewal. Both of ours can be renewed 180 prior to expiration. NOT a problem if our birthdays were closer together! Mike's is January, so she was able to renew hers this trip. Since Lindy's is in October, she will have to wait until after May to renew hers.... You guessed it, another trip to Box Elder is on the docket for next summer! We plan on a couple of days here at Americas Campground, then we shall move out to the Black Hills...!

We have experienced rain on and off during our stay at Americas Campground, and did set up the TV to run on antenna so that we could get CBS to watch Sunday night TV. And yes, the storm warnings came heavy: over the local TV stations and Weather Call! This storm on Sunday later caused much damage east of us! Once again, it had split around us!

So, we have been getting weather, but the SWE (SWIRVIN Weather Effect) so far is the "splitter" variety....which we appreciate!

We have done some sight seeing, which we will share later!

Tomorrow we head westward, for Buffalo!

Today:  Currently Sunny 83, High 90  Low 55
Tomorrow:  Mostly Sunny/Wind  High 67  Low 48

Buffalo:  tomorrow:  Mostly Sunny   High 62  Low 44

We plan on adjusting the humidity settings in the refrigerator....from high to low!!!

We are Roving Riders, SWIRVIN on down the road!
